At FED, we believe every era leaves behind icons such as objects, symbols, and styles that instantly transport us back in time. Some, like the famous Rubik’s Cube or the classic MTV Moon Man, have become lasting pop culture markers of creativity, innovation, and cultural spirit.
That’s exactly the inspiration behind our Decades & Eras Thematic Custom Decor, a collection of emblematic installations designed to put guests in the spirit of a specific time. It covers the playfulness of the 80s, the bold statements of the 90s and the early years of MTV.
Recently, our team brought this concept to life at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, featuring oversized, interactive installations.
MTV Moon Man
Oversized custom décor makes a strong focal point. They create instant impact, give an event an exclusive vibe, and offer photo-worthy moments guests can’t resist sharing on social media.
This particular 10-foot-tall installation depicted the first astronaut to land on the moon and plant the American flag, an homage that instantly transported guests back to the early 90s and the iconic MTV Awards.
Returning to its origins, MTV’s designers chose this imagery for their music awards to symbolize the brand’s pioneering spirit and its bold claim on the world of music, much like astronauts claimed the moon for humanity.
The presence of this large-scale Moon Man brought a nostalgic yet exclusive atmosphere to the event, allowing guests to relive those emblematic, empowering, and trailblazing times.
Magic Cube Tables
For this decade-themed celebration, we designed the bar to perfectly match both the retro 90’s aesthetic and the intellectual vibe inspired by the iconic Rubik’s Cube.
Our thematic bar featured two giant 4-foot Rubik’s Cubes topped with an 8-foot frosted acrylic tabletop, a sleek, practical surface for serving drinks and sparking conversation.
The beverage station also became a social hub where guests mingled, swapped jokes, and connected beyond the main event topic. The bold colors and geometric lines made it a natural photo hotspot, driving instant social media shares and organic brand visibility.
LED-Lit Swirl Tunnel Arches
To top it off, guests stepped straight into the nostalgia zone with our LED-Lit Swirl Tunnel, a jaw-dropping entrance experience inspired by 90’s visual energy.
The structure featured six square box frames, each between 8 and 12 feet tall, arranged in alternating lengths to create a dynamic swirling effect.
To dial up the drama, we wrapped LED rope lighting around every other frame, producing a mesmerizing play of light and movement. The result was hypnotic and irresistible. Guests couldn’t help but follow the glow, which led them right to the registration desk while building excitement for what was ahead.
Of course, it doubled as the ultimate photo opportunity. It was perfect for attendees wanting to share their 90’s-inspired adventure online, and perfect for the brand to boost event visibility across Instagram, TikTok, and beyond.
