For one evening, the Cascata Pool at JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa was transported back to the bold, electric era of the 1980s.
A Statement That Set the Tone
Florida Event Decor reimagined the decade through a layered, high-impact design that celebrated music culture, graphic expression, and oversized nostalgia, without sacrificing refinement or flow. This was not a literal recreation of the 80s, but a stylized interpretation, where iconic symbols were scaled up, colors were intensified, and every installation carried both visual power and purpose. The result was energetic and unmistakably retro from the moment guests arrived.
The first thing guests noticed was the scale. Rising above the space, the MTV Moon Man statue immediately established the night’s visual language. Standing ten feet tall and paired with its flagpole and uplighting, the installation created an instant sense of drama and anticipation.
The Moon Man became the symbol of the event. It anchored the space visually, guided guest movement, and quickly became the most photographed moment of the night.
A Poolside Environment Reimagined
The Cascata Pool offered an expansive canvas, allowing the design to unfold in layers rather than clusters. Florida Event Decor effectively utilized the venue's openness, distributing installations in a way that encouraged exploration while maintaining clear sightlines and a natural flow of movement. Rather than relying on a single focal point, the space was designed as a series of moments. Each area delivered its own visual punch while contributing to a cohesive overall experience.
Strategic uplighting defined pathways and gathering zones, changing the poolside setting as the evening went on.
As daylight faded, the lighting intensified the colors, sharpened silhouettes, and raised the energy, shifting the mood from a casual arrival to a full-scale celebration.
Iconic Objects, Reimagined
Classic 80s symbols were reinterpreted for the space. The Rubik’s Cube Buffet turned one of the decade’s most recognizable icons into a working buffet. Oversized cube bases, vivid graphics, and a frosted acrylic tabletop combined to create a buffet station that felt playful yet refined.
Guests were drawn to the installation instinctively. Its scale and color demanded attention, while its functionality encouraged interaction. The buffet became a social hub, blending design and utility in a way that felt intentional.
Nearby, the Blaster Bar Surrounds delivered another cultural callback, this time to music, sound, and street-style expression. Designed to resemble oversized boomboxes, the bar surrounds turned beverage service into a design moment. Drinks were served from within these graphic structures, reinforcing the theme while maintaining a dynamic and accessible experience.
Designed for Movement and Interaction
One of the defining qualities of the event was how naturally guests moved through the space. The layout encouraged circulation without overtly directing it. Guests flowed from the Moon Man installation to the Rubik’s Cube Buffet, then toward the Blaster Bars, discovering new perspectives and details with each transition.
Every significant element was inherently interactive. Guests stood beneath the décor, leaned against it, posed with it, and gathered around it.
Visual Impact That Translated on Camera
The event was designed with the understanding that experiences today live in both in-person and digital formats. Strong silhouettes, high-contrast graphics, and deliberate lighting ensured that every installation was photographed with clarity and impact.
The Moon Man statue dominated the frame in wide shots, while the Rubik’s Cube graphics and Blaster Bar details offered striking close-ups. Every angle presented an opportunity for compelling content, allowing the energy of the event to extend far beyond the venue.

The success of the night relied on meticulous planning and execution. From coordinated logistics and same-day delivery to efficient setup and breakdown, every operational step supported a smooth presentation of the event.
Multi-piece installations were assembled with precision, ensuring stability, alignment, and visual consistency. Uplighting was positioned to enhance, not overpower, the décor. These behind-the-scenes efforts allowed the design to shine without distraction.
